Do I need a facelift?
Todd writes, “I am a 60 year old tall, thin, farmer who just realized the sun damage to his skin. I don’t have the sagging face and neck but do have some deep wrinkles along both sides of my mouth. I’m told CO2 laser surgery would have been great 10 years ago, but now, best results would happen with a full face lift and dermabrasion. I don’t know what’s right for me. Any thoughts?
At this age, your wrinkles are simply due to natural aging, and may have been accelerated/accentuated due to overexposure to sun.
Indeed, CO2 laser treatments are more effective for somewhat younger skin, but at your age, a full facelift will give you much better results that will also last longer.
Having said that, remember that plastic surgeons run a business and want to sell you things. In other words, make one or two more appointments with cosmetic surgeons and pretend as if you have not spoken to anyone else and are really clueless, have a small budget, and looking for some thoughts. Also insist on seeing before and after photos of patients in your age bracket and with your condition.
