Consequences of adultery
How to deal with adultery?

By Imfwama Wotela

Summary:  Adultery can cause enormous damage to a relationship and in today's world where it is so hard to find a decent relationship to destroy one's relationship by being unfaithful is just not the right thing to do.  In this series of articles, we have already discussed the consequences of adultery, what happens when one partner violates trust and becomes unfaithful, and now we will discuss how to deal with adultery.  (Related article:  How to respond to an affair)

When you see that there is a problem in a relationship, the first step is to deal with it. The problem is that we go out there to look for solace that eventually brings problems on us that we end up spending time trying to solve them. Let’s stop looking for an easy way out for solving such serious issues. I believe that when you think you no longer want your partner, you should first sit down alone and ask yourself the following questions:

  • Why have I fallen out of love?
  • What was the reason I fell in love the first time?
  • Is it worth losing all that I have built?
  • Is it the new company or my new friends that I now keep?
  • Have I changed? Is it the fame and money that I now have?
  • What does this new guy/lady have that John/Susan don’t have?
  • Will I be happy? Am I making the right choice?
  • Why do they want me?
  • What if she/he is also sleeping around?
  • I don’t owe an explanation to anybody after all its my life and I make my own decisions.
  • Is it the intimacy?
  • Is it that we can’t have children
  • Ah, he/she is no longer attractive.
  • How would I feel if he/she did this to me?

Some opportunities can open for you today but there is no guarantee that this same door will open for you again. Chances are usually that it never will. Certain risks that we take may just destroy our lives forever.  (Related article:  Clues of a man cheating online)

Hence, the need to think before we act. Any seed sown in deceit will come out one day, no matter how deep you bury it; it will just come out. When you cultivate a bad habit, eventually it will come out in the light.  (Related:  How to hire a private investigator?)

Adultery is a terrible disease. It never gets satisfied at the beginning. It tastes so sweet and so you keep feeding, and before you know it, it’s fully grown and you will no longer have power to stop it, as it wants to come out. Anything that is fed will grow and eventually come out in the open for all to see. So instead of spending a life of guilt or trying to say, “I am sorry, it will never happen again” or “ I don’t know what I was doing, I don’t know what came over me” or trying to run away or rebuilding what you tore with your hands, think twice before you get on that boat. If you think you are not ready for a serious relationship, please don’t start one and waste somebody’s time when they could have done better without you. We don’t walk in and out of relationships like we go to the grocery store. We have a saying in my home, “Stolen water tastes sweet, but in the end, you will taste and feel the bitterness/poison that has been collecting in your stomach as it seeks to be released.”  (Related article:  Dangers of adultery on family)
