Generally speaking, I have
found that one year (it can be shorter for
people who were married for a much shorter
period) is about a good time to enter into a
new relationship after a divorce or
death of spouse. In your case, this
requirement is satisfied for both of you. |
Considering that both of you are
somewhat of
advanced age, I would suggest that both of you have
a
prenup agreement (and a
living will). Essentially, if you
have
children they should be guaranteed what they deserve
and will have no
claim on the other family. I suggest that you speak
to an
attorney and your family to do this right. Children
will support a union like this more if they know that
they are taken care of and will not have strangers
claiming right over their inheritance. Also it will
start
the relationship between the two families on a more
cordial and trustworthy foundation.
