Second thoughts after breakup

Did I lose something valuable?

Summary:  A woman is concerned that by dumping her boyfriend she may have lost any chance of being married.
Carrie writes, "I did not have many friends and the last couple were chased away by my ex-boyfriend whom I dumped recently. I still miss him terribly. Cannot sleep. At church the other night the sermon was about finding peace and how to hold your tongue when it doesn't matter really, what the outcome is going to be is nothing important. I was thinking long and hard on this, but I guess I reached my end with not saying anything to my ex and told him pretty nasty things that were bothering me for months. Again, I just hope I didn't throw away something good, because I overreacted or got mad at some trivial thing."
It is fine to miss him or feel bad; it is like grieving after a loss. Once you grieve, it is easier and healthier way to move on. Also, it is a time to reflect, as you are doing, so that you can learn from the experience and apply it to your future life and relationships.

If what you said bothered you for so long, something was not right with your ex boyfriend and it was time to tell him so. The relationships full of doubt and ambivalence do not last too long. Now that you have taken the next step, you are now free to pursue a relationship with a more compatible man.
