Carol Ernst testifies about her guilt for Robert’s death

When we see one of those ads on television from a drug company pushing us to ask our doctor about XYZ drug, many of us are naive enough to follow their advice. That is exactly what Carol Ernst did. When the couple watched an ad for Vioxx from Merck, she asked her now deceased husband, Robert Ernst, to ask his doctor about it.

Like many doctors who rely heavily on drug sales rep for knowledge about drugs and do not like to disappoint their patients, Robert Ernst started his Vioxx pain medication. Eight months later Robert Ernst was dead. Remember that he was in excellent physical shape and was proud of being a runner.

In her testimony, his widow Carol Ernst, spoke of her sense of guilt. She feels that if she had not paid attention to Merck’s aggressive advertising, Robert Ernst would be alive. She is suing Merck for knowingly selling a dangerous drug that resulted in as many as 50,000 deaths in America alone, according to FDA estimates. Merck has refused to accept that anyone has died after taking.

Carol Ernst told a very sad story of how her marriage did not even last one year. A very simple woman from a rural part of Texas, according to reports written by Kristen Hays of AP, Carol Ernst is now convinced that the evidence presented so far in first ever Vioxx lawsuit trial shows that Merck downplayed risks of Vioxx so that Merck profits would not be hurt.
