Don’t pine for Vioxx; it may kill you
Indeed, Vioxx was a painkiller that gave pain relief but it was also so dangerous that it killed an estimated 60,000 people. As some newspapers are reporting, former patients of the killer drug continue to plead with Merck to bring the drug back and the company has fantasized about putting the drug back on the shelves. However, there are alternatives to Vioxx for pain relief (even olive oil can relieve pain) and the risks of this drug far outweigh the benefits to justify a return.
The best course of action for arthritis patients is to have a frank discussion with their doctors and look at alternatives rather than knowingly take a killer drug.
