Relaxation techniques used by Japanese women
A visit to the American equivalent of a spa

If some of you might know about the life of a woman in Japan, you probably know that it is extremely stressful. Women in Japan have a clearly defined role to play and their behavior should correspond to these standards at all times. Whether it is as schoolgirls or as office ladies (as we are known in Japan if we work in an office) or as wives and mothers, we know what we have to do. Living in such a disciplined and structured society, we become pretty stressed, and thus, have to do everything we can to relax ourselves. Of course, there is a splendid way for relaxation very common in Japan. Have you ever heard about the hot spring or the onsen?  In other parts of the world too, a spa is favorite destination to relieve stress.  Allure magazine found that 68% of the people who visit a spa are trying to get rid of their stress.

The hot spring resorts are usually located in the suburbs. Clean air, many green lawns, and great dishes welcome you. Each place also has other facilities for healing body illnesses and other physical problems that we can use while we are there.

While most hot springs are for both sexes, there are some that target women and these have beauty treatments and spa facilities as well. My favorite ones are those that have an open air bath (also called rotenburo) that makes you feel refreshed under the blue sky, bright stars or even around white snow. During the middle of winter, when there is snow all around and the sky clears up after a snowfall, there is nothing more exciting then being under the stars and taking a dip in the hot water.

A place called Atami is very close to Tokyo. It only takes one and half hours by local train. In a hot spring in Atami, we can enjoy watching the sea through the big glass wall while taking a bath . The restaurant in the onsen also offers you the very fresh fish and seafood. Also, there are many kinds of bath, sauna, massage, beauty salon, Karaoke and other facilities so that you don't get bored of staying there even for a whole day.

Well, I have told you that while our lives may be stressful but we have our own ways to take our stress out and just have a good time. If you do get a chance to visit a hot spring, here in Japan or elsewhere, you will definitely like it.
